Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is a leading international non-profit, focused on building a vital earth for everyone by advancing climate solutions, protecting natural systems, and promoting human health. They recognise that justice and equity are key to achieving durable climate action.
EDF selected Ethicore to conduct a Landscape Assessment of ‘Environmental Justice’ and the ‘Just Transition’ in Europe, to help them consider systemic inequalities while advancing climate solutions.
Ethicore’s European analysis and 7-country study (Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Spain) mapped over 250 stakeholders (from activists to academics) and included over 90 in-depth interviews, plus an extensive literature review. The analysis explored the relevant language and framing, vulnerable groups, salient issues and the policy and political contexts that are likely to shape discourse and progress across Europe.
Ethicore’s detailed report for internal use provides insights on the priorities, issues and opportunities for EDF and partners in Europe to enable a globally and socially fair transition. Thank you to all stakeholders who gave their time and insight so generously. EDF will make available a synthesis report for external use.
